Tak Talk Blog- Camp Takajo – July 4, 2025

We saw a little bit of everything today. After a beautiful morning filled with regularly scheduled activities, skies turned grey in the early afternoon.

Timing couldn’t have been better because the rain held off long enough for our Warriors to leave the dining room and get back to their bunks before our Juniors and Seniors flooded the dining hall to get under cover for their favorite pizza lunch.

The skies opened up while everybody was safely indoors. With uncanny timing, the bright sunshine returned as the afternoon activity whistle blew.

We squeezed in a lot of intercamp throughout the day: we competed in a tennis tournament, 12-and-under hockey, and 10-and-under basketball. Our boys performed as if they’d been training together all year.

These intercamp competitions, along with the trips and special events, not only inject energy into our program, but also break up the rhythm of the regular schedule, even though it still makes for a great day at camp on its own.

After an incredible night in Portland yesterday for a USL soccer game, our Seniors grabbed a quick shower this afternoon and boarded the bus for Camp Vega. I couldn’t help but observe each boy’s demeanor as they made their way to the bus. This is part of the evolution of boys. Some walked with a certain swagger— comfortable, confident, and at ease in their dress and attitude, radiating a welcoming energy. Others wore outfits that showed they were ready, but their body language and stride revealed hints of hesitation and uncertainty.

Nevertheless, this is an important part of one’s maturation. Our boys had a great time mingling with the ladies at Vega, enjoying a delicious cookout dinner and dancing to music from artists whose names I can’t even pronounce.

As the sun set over Long Lake, a west wind swept across the campus, bringing a cool breeze and three-blanket sleeping weather— every sign pointing to another beautiful day ahead.
