The heat is on the rise. Humidity levels are climbing. But, that didn’t stop our boys from suiting up in their Takajo uniforms and representing their camp in 10-and-under basketball, 12-and-under hockey, 14-and-under soccer, 11-, 13-, and 15-and-under tennis. Our boys continue to perform at a very high level, never losing sight of the importance of sportsmanship.
I want to digress and discuss the upcoming FaceTime calls on Sunday. I can only imagine how most of you are counting down the minutes until you have the opportunity to reconnect with your son. For most of you, the call will be upbeat and filled with tons of information. For some of you, the shock of seeing your face for the first time could create a visceral reaction and bring your son to tears.
I know that I don’t need to coach you and suggest that your son might need a moment to catch his breath before you engage in conversation, but it is important to recognize that this exchange can sometimes be a little awkward or leave you a little unsatisfied. Our boys have been active non-stop since the buses arrived two weeks ago, and candidly, we could use a day of rain for the change of pace and the opportunity to catch up on some rest.
Nevertheless, there is so much your son can share. He tried new activities since he arrived. He participated in some exciting and nail-biting games. He took part in our first Family Field Day where he got to play and cheer with his older brothers in camp. He was mesmerized at our opening campfire, entertained at our Counselor Talent Show, and was in awe of our fireworks display. He is looking forward to Sunday morning Dunkin’ Donuts.
There is so much that can be discussed during your phone call, but one never knows how that first interaction is going to affect a child.
As always, I’m here whenever you need me.
