Camp Takajo woke up to another warm, sunny day. A steady breeze off the lake made this hot, summer day much easier to endure. We hosted a sailing regatta, which typically means calm winds and a still lake. However, this year we got lucky. Throughout the day, we had the opportunity to witness expert sailors from neighboring camps compete against our boys displaying great tactical skill.

This warm, summer day created a perfect opportunity for our boys finishing 2nd and 3rd grades to leave camp on fun, day trips to a local water park and beach. Some of our boys finishing 4th grade, who are lacrosse “diehards,” traveled to a neighboring camp for a ten-and-under lacrosse tournament. We were not just battling the other camps; we had to contend with warm temperatures. But, our boys remained hydrated, our coaches rotated the players with precision, and they came home healthy and happy.

Beach Trip Camp Takajo for Boys in Naples, MaineDuring the evening, while I was making my rounds to say goodnight to all the Warrior Campers, I could not help but notice that even after a refreshing shower, our little guys were uncomfortable with the evening heat. With a quick radio call to our head of waterfront, Bob Lewis, we set our lifeguards up on our docks and allowed our boys in Warrior camp to leave their bunks for an impromptu evening dip. Watching these little guys splash around in the shallow end of our swimming area was a perfect ending to a warm, summer day.
