What’s Happening at Camp Takajo, August 3, 2014

Camp Takajo Junior Big Show "Grease" 2014

While some people might feel that there is a tendency to wind-down in the last few weeks of camp, this couldn’t be further from the truth. As a matter of fact, we would much rather take the approach of sprinting through the finish line. With just two Sundays left in the Camp Takajo season, the campers cherished Lazy Man’s morning this morning and a casual breakfast, compliments of Dunkin’ Donuts. The morning provided an opportunity for our boys to choose from a wide variety of activities, giving them a little extra time to focus on things that make them happiest.

We had our first Father/Son Weekend meeting, and I whet the boys’ appetites by telling those who are staying all the great things they would be able to do with their dads. A busload of brothers and cousins had the opportunity to visit their siblings and cousins at Tripp Lake Camp for lunch and one final hug before they reunite on August 15.

The greatest part of our day was when the camp came together in the MJG Playhouse to watch our Junior campers perform the musical Grease. I am always amazed that the campers find time to learn their lines and act so professionally in the midst of their jam-packed days. As is often the case, some of the more magnificent voices are those of our Junior campers– strong enough to project to the very back row of our theater, yet still young enough to be pure and unwavering thanks to preadolescence.

Our campers didn’t disappoint. The show was funny, entertaining, and even had a cameo number performed by some of the Junior camp’s most charismatic counselors. In keeping with the traditions of camp, we ended the evening singing the camp alma mater and standing for a moment of silence as Warren Davis played tattoo. We thought about our families and the special opportunity that has been provided to us this summer, and we all felt incredibly grateful.
