What’s Happening at Camp Takajo: July 6, 2013

By July 7, 2013 January 4th, 2019 Tak Talk

It is hard to believe that we have finished the second week of camp. While the weather has been magnificent, and the program is in full swing, what I focus on most is the emotional and social adjustments to camp. The second week of camp takes on a very different light than week one. In the first week of camp, the boys are on their best behavior. They’re either getting to know their bunk mates and counselors, or they are becoming reacquainted. As we enter week two, it is only natural to expect campers to become relaxed, and their true personalities to resonate.WR Swimmers at Camp Takajo

I think our boys deserve far more credit for how well they have done, living in such close proximity for seven weeks of the summer. I chuckle at the thought of picturing us, living in similar circumstances.  The greatest skills we can teach at camp are the ones your child will keep with him throughout his life, such as learning how to respect one another. Patience, teamwork, cooperation, and compassion– there is no greater place for a child to learn these skills than to spend a summer at camp.

Arch Ideal:  Love

  • The 14-and-under campers competed with Camp Winaukee today at Camp Takajo. Our 15-year-olds competed in baseball. The baseball games took place throughout the day at Camp Wildwood and Camp Cedar.
  • Today in Warrior Camp, we are back in the groove of our regularly scheduled events. We played in the sprinklers, had slushees, and enjoyed all that camp has to offer.
  • We had a big day of tennis competition yesterday. Thirty boys competed. There were three tournaments, ten events, and we were the champions in 9 out of 10 of them. The first game was the 13 and 15 A teams. We were the champions in the 13 singles, the runner-up in the 13 doubles, and the champions in the 15 doubles and 15 singles. In the Skylemar 11A game, we were the singles champions, the doubles champions, and the runner-up in the doubles. In the 12-and-under competitions, we were the singles champion, the doubles champion, and the singles runner-up. Lastly, against Camp Laurel, our 15 team was the singles champion, the doubles champion, and the singles runner-up.
  • The Seniors left for an afternoon with the girls from Camp Vega to watch the Portland Seadogs baseball team play in Portland, Maine. Go Seadogs!
