What’s Happening at Camp Takajo: July 5, 2013

By July 6, 2013 January 4th, 2019 Tak Talk

I am often asked why Morty Goldman, the founder of Camp Takajo, chose the word “obedience” for one of his arch ideals. The word often conjures an image of a child who is confined to a strict environment. In fact, obedience really speaks to a child’s love and respect for his parents and his environment.Opening Council Fire 2013 We are so blessed to have children who come from families who share our values. And, while all parents want their children to succeed, they also want their children to work hard and earn their success. Today, our campers traveled to Camp Laurel to participate in today’s tennis tournament. While we came home with the first place trophy, what was even more impressive was that they won with grace and dignity. Each day, camp teaches us to work hard and rely on the team. While the drive back from Camp Laurel was long, there were memories that were created that will last a lifetime, and I know our boys made their parents proud.

Arch Ideal:  Obedience

  • Our day in Warrior Camp was fantastic. We had a full day of regular scheduled events, and it all went smoothly. Tonight, we have the Independence Day Assembly, followed by the fireworks show, when the Warriors get to sit in the front row.
  • Today in Senior and Junior Camps, we had our 14-and-under basketball tournament and our 12-and-under roller hockey tournament, both at Camp Takajo. Tomorrow, all of our Intermediates (13 year olds) will go to Camp Winaukee to play lacrosse, soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis and football. We will be sending the 14-year-olds there for a similar day tomorrow. Our 15-year-old baseball teams will be traveling to local camps for a tournament, as well.
  • Today on the waterfront, we had a full day of activities. Everything from waterskiing to canoeing was in full-swing today. The sun was out, the water was cool, and our boys got to enjoy the waterfront to its fullest.
