What’s Happening at Camp Takajo? July 19, 2012

By July 19, 2012 January 14th, 2019 Tak Talk

Jeff’s Thoughts:
Visiting Day Perspective:  It’s difficult to imagine that parents have been anticipating visiting day at Camp Takajo for the last four weeks, and in the blink of an eye, it will be over. Your hearts are filled with excitement and the anticipation of hearing about everything your son has been doing over the last month. You will have a chance to meet a loving, caring staff. You will see a facility in pristine condition, but most importantly you will see your son, who has already grown immensely from the summer camp experience. In a relatively short amount of time, your son has competed with others, has had his share of successes and defeats, but most importantly, he has learned about himself. He has learned self-reliance, tolerance and compassion for others; and, while he has missed you dearly, he has made some great friendships, which we hope will last a lifetime. Thank you for sharing your most precious “possession” with us. We have loved every moment with him and look forward to the next three weeks as we continue to help him grow, day-by-day.

  • Today Camp Takajo is cleaning up after a great carnival yesterday.  All the Warriors heard their new teams yesterday.  We switch teams half way through summer, so these teams will continue through the end of camp. The Crow teams are NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB.  The Brave team names are names of native American tribe members, and the Indian team names are of native American tribes.
  • We are all looking forward to and preparing for visiting day tomorrow, when we will welcome parents, family and friends to spend the day with our campers.
  • A number of rookie campers are visiting Camp Takajo today for our annual Rookie Day. They will spend the day with us and see what Takajo is all about.  Some of these boys are little brothers of our very own campers. The forecast is for a beautiful weekend for our many, many activities.
  • The Juniors are enjoying a full day of sports activities. They are still recovering from the carnival yesterday, but are enjoying today’s beautiful Maine weather as they clean up once more to prepare for Visiting Day.
  • Two groups of campers are going out to play golf today. The temperatures are cooler than they have been in a while, so it is a perfect day for these boys to play.
  • Camp Takajo is running our first ever cross-country running trip. Some senior campers are cross-country runners back at home, so they went out of camp today and ran a few snowmobile trails locally.
  • The Pioneering staff is teaching our rookie campers how to rock climb so they can get to the top of the Takajo climbing wall.
