What’s Happening at Camp Takajo? July 16, 2012

Jeff’s Thoughts:
Courage:  A few days ago, Camp Takajo hosted our annual Tennis Invitational.  Seven camps participated in this iconic event.  The competition was fierce, and the final outcome would not be determined until the last few matches were completed. In the 14-and-under singles bracket, a Takajo camper was matched against a bigger, stronger, boy from another camp.  The court was lined with campers and counselors from both camps. Our camper was down four games to one in an eight-game pro set. Within the first 20 minutes of the match, with a never-give-up attitude, he noticed that his opponent was trying to win each point within the first few strokes of the rally and recognized he needed to keep the ball in play and force his opponent to make errors.  The pressure was intense, but our guy reached inward and chipped away at the lead.  When the two players met at the net to shake hands after the match was completed, our player was victorious, having won with a score of 8 games to 5. Courage.

  • Today, we have some very important inter-camp basketball games at Camp Cedar with our 13- and 15-year-old campers.  The 12-and-under, and 15-and-under boys are also going to be at Camp Cedar today doing some climbing. The Okeechobees (our Senior Senior campers) will be going to a store in town this afternoon to get some costumes for this week’s Carnival.
  • Last night, Camp Takajo enjoyed this year’s Senior Big Show. The Seniors put on a fantastic performance of Little Shop of Horrors.  Those involved in the show enjoyed being in the spotlight and the round of applause they received from the crowd. Great job Senior campers, you did an outstanding job.
