What’s Happening at Camp Takajo, July 15, 2012

Jeff’s Thoughts:
Camp Takajo Arch Ideal- Integrity: The heat spell has reached us in Maine.  Humid weather can make it challenging to sleep. This creates a challenging time for bunk dynamics. This afternoon, a camper came into my office upset that a few boys played a prank on him and took some personal items off his shelf. What seems like a funny idea when surrounded by friends, can often lead to poor judgment. I brought the bunk together to discuss their antics and asked all the boys if anyone would step up and admit they made an error in judgment. There was an awkward silence in the room, and I reminded these young men, that making bad choices is bad, but not owing up to them is worse. It was at that moment that a few boys acknowledged their mistake, reached their hand to their bunk mate, looked him in the eye and said, “I’m sorry.”  Integrity.

  • Tonight, Camp Takajo is putting on our Senior Big Show, where our Senior campers get the spotlight and always give a memorable performance.  This year, the play is Little Shop of Horrors, and the rest of the camp can’t wait to see what happens.
  • Today, we had Lazy Man’s morning, when our boys get to sleep in a little later, and pick and choose their morning activities. It is Warrior Camp’s favorite morning.  We are playing whiffle ball, lacrosse and all-sport under the sprinklers today to keep the campers cool on a warm day.  All of Camp Takajo is looking forward to watching the older boys tonight in the Senior show.
  • The waterfront is getting ready for visiting day, and preparing the sand and the shore for a whole lot of Takajo water-skiers and swimmers.
  • Tennis players today are getting ready for some competitive play this week. Monday, our B team will play against Camp Cedar, and on Tuesday the 10-and-under boys are playing in a tennis tournament with Camp Winaukee.
  • Today, there are many brother/sister/cousin events going on at neighboring camps.  We have our boys out at Camp Vega, Camp Pinecliffe, Camp Mataponi and Camp Fernwood, allowing the boys to spend some quality time with their relatives.
