Tak Talk Blog – No Signs of Slowing Down, July 30, 2026

The calendar will soon be turning to August. It would be easy to think the pace around camp is starting to slow down, but nothing could be further from the truth. If anything, the momentum is continuing to build.

Last night, our Eagles enjoyed one of those wonderfully awkward first socials with the girls from Camp Vega. The evening was filled with tennis, Gaga, s’mores, and dinner. The boys returned home with big smiles and digits all over their arms.

While our Senior campers were away on their adventures, our Junior Greys had the unique opportunity to step into a leadership role within their Takajo Families. At last night’s cookout, these oldest boys in Junior Camp looked after the younger members of their families, giving them a glimpse of the responsibility that awaits them in the years ahead. Leadership isn’t something we simply talk about, it is something our boys are given opportunities to practice.

Today, our 10-and-under, 11-and-under, and 12-and-under tennis teams all traveled to a neighboring camp to compete, while our two 10-and-under football teams represented Takajo on the same campus. Back home, we hosted two 11-and-under basketball games, keeping our courts just as busy as our buses.

Late this evening, our Intermediate campers rolled back into camp after an unforgettable few days in Boston. Reports from the trip leaders suggest this one will be talked about for a long time. While they were thrilled by everything they experienced in the city, there is always something special about watching those buses pull back onto the camp road. No matter how exciting the trip, there is a comfort in returning home to Long Lake.

As exciting as this week has been, we’re already looking ahead. Next week, it will be Warrior Camp’s and Junior Camp’s turn to embark on their own Big Trips. These younger boys are counting down the days until Storyland, Funtown Splashtown, Watercountry, whitewater rafting, and so many other memorable experiences.

Some of the most anticipated experiences are still ahead of us. Every week seems to build upon the one before it, and each event creates anticipation for whatever comes next. There is still so much left to do.

The calendar may say we’re entering the final stretch, but around camp, there are absolutely no signs of slowing down.
