It’s hard to believe that just one week ago we were eagerly awaiting the arrival of hundreds of families for visiting day. But the boys have really settled right back into camp life, and that’s exactly what we’ve witnessed all week.
Today was another outstanding example of camp operating at full speed. Our 10-and-under baseball team represented Takajo in a double header, while our 11-and-under lacrosse players traveled to a neighboring camp for another afternoon of spirited competition.
Our Junior campers also enjoyed one of the social highlights of the summer. The Junior Greens welcomed Camp Vega this evening, while our Junior Greys boarded buses and traveled to Vega for their own social. These evenings are always filled with lots of excitement and plenty of nervous smiles.
Meanwhile, our oldest campers continue making memories across the Northeast.
After completing the St. Croix River canoe trip, the Maine Adventure, and the Golf Trip, all of our Sub Seniors converged in Bar Harbor today, where they’ll spend the next phase of their Big Trip together before returning home.
Our Okees continued their Canadian adventure with another unforgettable day. They stepped back in time through an interactive military experience on the Plains of Abraham before challenging themselves at Abraska Treetop Adventure, navigating rope bridges and soaring through the forest on ziplines. From there, they traveled to Montreal for dinner in historic Old Montreal before participating in a hands-on graffiti workshop, where each camper created a personalized souvenir to bring home.
Our Intermediate campers returned from Boston yesterday, and with the older Senior bunks scattered across New England and Canada, our Inters naturally stepped into the role of leaders on campus. It’s something we look forward to every summer: they set the tone in the dining hall, lead by example around camp, and begin preparing for the leadership roles they’ll assume in the coming years.
As we head into another weekend, camp feels exactly as it should. The excitement of visiting day has become another wonderful memory, our routines are firmly back in place, and there is still so much of the summer left to enjoy.
Every day seems to bring another game, another trip, another challenge, and another opportunity for our boys to grow. That’s a pretty good place to be.
