Grey, overcast skies gave the hint of inclement weather. But as the morning developed, the sun made its way through the clouds along with the humidity, it was a hot summer day. That did not deter our boys from giving their all and having another fantastic day of Olympic competition.
The Junior Greens (finished fifth grade) had an afternoon tennis tournament with almost every match coming down to the wire. I watched another soccer game— this time in Warrior Camp— end on penalty kicks. Our Seniors had a full day of sports, competing in basketball, volleyball, soccer, ultimate frisbee, and capture the flag. We made time for all age groups to make their way down to the lake to take a refreshing plunge. It was the perfect way to bring our boys’ body temperatures down and relax their muscles after a full day of competition.
Our Warriors enjoyed an evening at the movies, and we surprised them with a late-night pizza party to cap off their amazing day. Our Juniors had the option of watching the Olympics or taking in a movie, while our Senior boys came into the dining room for a make-your-own-sundae ice cream party followed by an Okee dance-off referred to as the “Kogan.” The Kogan is one of those events that somehow grabbed traction over the years and became a tradition. The Okees from both the Green and Grey teams compete in a dance-off that three members of our female staff judge. Those points are included in their Olympic totals. In front of a packed dining room of Senior campers and staff as well as some other curious onlookers, our Okees performed and received a roaring ovation.
It’s hard to believe that tomorrow morning is our last Lazy Man’s Morning of this season. I’m sure those delicious Dunkin’ Donuts will taste a little bittersweet.
