Let the countdown begin. With just a day before we open, I’m sure there is a lot of excitement in your home. Along with excitement must come some nervous anticipation. I often say that moments of great stress and anxiety often become our greatest achievements and happiest memories.
No matter your son’s age or how many years he’s attended Camp Takajo, transitions can be nerve-wracking. If this is the case in your home, it might be worth reminding your son of a few experiences in his life when he was anxious but the nerves dissipated once he allowed himself to persevere: the first day of school, trying out for a team, auditioning for a play. These are just a few examples that might be relatable for your son.
We have an amazing staff, and I’ve had the pleasure of having the last two weeks to get to know the men and women who will be living and working with our boys. They are hard-working, morally and ethically sound individuals who can’t wait to see those buses roll down the camp road on Saturday. We’re at the tail end of a heat wave and expect temperatures to be in the mid-seventies on Arrival Day this weekend. The fields are in the best shape ever; our boats are bobbing in the water on moorings, waiting to take sail and pull skiers. The only thing missing is your son.
My pledge to you is to give you and your child my undivided attention, to be transparent, loving, and to treat your little guy as if he was my own. I will share daily updates, musings from my desk of events that I witness, and moments I think you would want me to share. Let the fun begin!
