It was a dreary day with mist in the air, but the boys did not seem to care. Whenever possible, our boys remained outdoors; boys hopped on the banana boats throughout the day, taking the attitude, “A little more water is not going to make a difference.”

Senior Group Leader Neil Minsky devised the ingenious idea of organizing karaoke for his Senior boys in the Lodge. Spontaneous fun was had by almost all, except for me, because my office wall adjoins the Lodge where our oldest boys were singing loud and off-key. Enclosed in my office, I listened to some horrific, squeaky voices. If these guys were outside cult leader Dave Koresh’s compound in Waco, Texas, the glaring music would have resulted in a peaceful surrender from Koresh and his followers.

Camp Takajo karaoke in Naples, Maine, USAA little rain did not scare off our golfers, so several boys had the opportunity to hit the links. It was also a perfect opportunity for mulligans since there was no one else on the course and no worries about the speed of play. Our twelve-and-under soccer teams competed in a round-robin tournament. One of our teams traveled to play on another camp’s pitch while we hosted the other camps at Takajo. Our fifteen-year-old boys laced up their cleats and traveled to a neighboring camp to compete in a round-robin flag football tournament. The wet grass and dampness in the air made for challenging elements, but the boys had a blast playing in these conditions.

Our Crows (finished first or second grade) boarded the big yellow taxi for a surprise trip to the movies. We rented the theatre, and to the boys’ delight, they watched Spiderman while munching on some pizza and chicken fingers. Our boys who have finished fifth grade spent the morning prepping for their social with Camp Vega, while our boys who finished sixth grade had a little more time to prepare for the Vega girls joining us for dinner at our place.

Our cool guys, who have finished eighth or ninth grade, had socials with the ladies from Tripp Lake Camp, and from all accounts, a fun time was had by all. By nightfall, those not engaged in socials made their way to our sports complexes for indoor play before hitting the showers and grabbing a snack for bedtime. With a busy week ahead, our boys need their rest.
