A soaking rain kept our bunk hoppers confined to their cabins last night. It was a well-needed rest for the boys and our counselors who patrol the quads in the evening. By morning, the sun was shining, and there was a cool breeze coming across Long Lake. Dippies darted out of their bunks and headed to the lake at the sound of reveille; it was another beautiful day. Those who participated in intercamp games were still basking in the glory of competition. Those who have not had the chance to compete are chomping at the bit for their opportunity, which is days away.

We continue to run daily pioneering trips, and our boys have loved the chance to explore the lakes, mountains, waterfalls, and trails of Maine. Today, our Grey Leaguers (finished sixth grade) left camp and headed to Ferry Beach State Park, where they enjoyed a beautiful day swimming and playing football on the beach. Before heading home, we surprised the Grey Leaguers and took them to the blockbuster movie, Minions: The Rise of Gru. Our boys were thrilled by this treat and loved their first excursion out of camp.

Our Subseniors (finished eighth grade) took a day trip to a local bowling alley for some friendly bunk competition. Before heading home, they were diverted to a movie theater where they viewed Top Gun. Our Subseniors came home in time to shower and join our Okees in Naples where they boarded the Songo River Queen, a double-decker river boat that cruises up and down Long Lake. Joining them on the Songo River Queen were the beautiful ladies from Camp Vega. The Subseniors had a social on the lower level of the boat while our Seniors, the Okees, enjoyed the upper deck.

As the sun was setting on Long Lake, the rest of our boys came down to the beach for our fireworks display, albeit a few days late, and our campers were delighted as these fireworks lit up the sky. For our boys on the Songo River Queen, if they couldn’t rely on their good looks and charm, we arranged for the Songo River to stop in front of Takajo to take in the fireworks display from aboard the boat. As we approach the end of the second week of camp, our boys seem settled, happy, and eagerly anticipating the next adventure.
