Warrior Eagles Little Trip

I know I’m beginning to sound like a broken record, but the weather remains spectacular in Maine. There is nothing monotonous about waking up to bright sunshine. It’s almost challenging to have a gloomy disposition when you stare out on Long Lake and see the water glisten. Nevertheless, there are a few that refute that sentiment, and that’s what makes my job so stimulating.

This morning, Junior Group Leader David Levy was twenty minutes late to breakfast. When he came to the table with a big smile on his face, he said, “I’m sorry I’m late. I had to respond to 100 questions after my morning lineup.”

Warren Davis casually looked up from his breakfast and remarked, “Just remember, David, the camper in front of you will only be impacted by how you answer his one question.” Sage advice from a man who’s been here for fifty years. It’s so important for all of us to remember that we are here to help guide children. If they are going to take the time to approach us, they deserve our undivided attention.

Today, our Warrior campers had an amazing day. The Hawks (finished third grade) were delighted when we surprised them with an impromptu trip to a movie theater that we reserved so they could see the summer blockbuster, Minions: Rise of Gru. Our boys loved munching on pizza and chicken fingers and appreciated the opportunity to have a change in routine to get off campus. No trip would be complete without a stop for ice cream, which brought a smile to all of our boy’s faces (except the two who are lactose intolerant).

Our Eagles (finished fourth grade) had the best day of their summer thus far. They boarded buses this morning and made their way to Funtown Splashtown Amusement Park. Our guys spent the entire day zipping down water slides, testing their fate on some thrilling rollercoasters, and loving the opportunity to munch on some goodies at the concession stands.

Meanwhile, back at camp, our Crows (finished second grade) took advantage of the empty Warrior Quad. All of our little guys had a morning filled with banana boat rides and waterfront games, followed by a picnic lunch up on the quad. In the afternoon, our Crows came down to the beach for a beach party. They built creative sandcastles, played beach games, and listened to the sound of upbeat music spun by DJ Kim.

Mike Turtle put in a full day of soccer clinics for all of our boys in Junior and Senior Camps. It was great to see our committed athletes, and even those who just want to take advantage of Mike’s training, working out together on our soccer fields. Within the next few days, the folks from Empire Baseball in New York City will arrive, and we will be offering all of our boys who are interested the opportunity to participate in some high-level baseball clinics.

As the sound of reveille echoed across a still campus, our boys rejoiced to know that they had a great day.
