Summer weather has returned to the shores of Long Lake. Today, the temperature climbed back into the eighties, and you can feel some humidity in the air. Our Senior boys departed on their week-long Big Trips. The Senior Intermediate campers (finished 7th grade) took off for Cape Cod, where they will go deep-sea fishing, mountain biking in Martha’s Vineyard, attend a Red Sox game at Fenway Park, and enjoy the sights at Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market in Boston.

The SubSeniors (finished 8th grade) had a choice of four amazing trips. Some of our boys will be hiking in Acadia National Park. The golf enthusiasts have departed on a week-long golf trip. They will have the opportunity to play some of the most challenging and scenic courses in the state of Maine. Those SubSeniors who love the outdoors have elected to canoe down the St. Croix River, camping each night along the shoreline, cooking food, sleeping under the stars, and experience being one with nature. Our more adventurous hikers are taking on the challenge of climbing Mt. Katahdin (5,270 ft.)– a true test of will, skill and determination.

In the meantime, our entire Warrior Indians group, campers who finished 4th grade, made their way to a rival camp for the second field day competition of the summer. Each boy participated in three team sporting events. After a fun-filled, action-packed day at camp, I started the Warrior Movie Nights tonight, at my house. Five Warrior Brave bunks came down to my house to relax, have an evening snack, and enjoy watching Mall Cop 2.

There is no such thing as slowing down at camp. As we begin the second half of the season, we intend on sprinting through the finish line and making the most out of each and every child’s experience here at Camp Takajo.
