Whoever came up with the expression “too much of a good thing can be a bad thing” had it all wrong. Today was one of the most magnificent days of the summer. We had bright sunshine, temperatures that reached the low eighties, and the humidity was gone. Today was a real Maine day.

We welcomed back our Senior Intermediate campers, who returned from their four-day Cape Cod/Martha’s Vineyard trip. These 13-year-old boys came home on top of the world, saying that they enjoyed every minute of their trip, including catching a Boston Red Sox game at historic Fenway Park.

Our SubSenior trips also returned one-by-one after a successful climb of Mt. Katahdin, canoeing down the St. Croix River, sight-seeing through Acadia National Park, and golfing at some of the most scenic courses in the state of Maine. Our SubSenior campers have just enough time to catch their breath and do their laundry before they take off for Canada for five days on Monday morning.

Today, we welcomed eighteen “rookie” campers who join us for the weekend. These little guys packed a ton into their first day– playing gaga, climbing the wall, shooting archery, swimming, and going banana boating on Long Lake. At the end of a long summer day, our staff assembled in the dining room for our annual staff party. This is our opportunity to thank these hard-working young men and women for their tireless work and dedication to your children.

To add to the festivities, I surprised the staff with a Takajo raffle. We gave the staff an opportunity to scream like children hoping their names would be picked out of the hat to win some one-of-a-kind Camp Takajo apparel. Sometimes in life, a small gesture goes a long way.
