What’s Happening at Camp Takajo: June 30, 2015

As a parent, I am incredibly sensitive to how difficult it is to separate from your child. I often joke with my friends that I wish I could homeschool my children, because I hate to say goodbye to them every morning when they leave for school. Needless to say, while I say this in jest, separating from your child for the summer is a much bigger deal.

06_27_2015_0_HotStove_15Over the past twenty-seven years that I have owned camp, I can assure you, the parents are far more anxious about the separation than the children. While you lay awake at night wondering how your child is doing, and go to the Camp Takajo website hoping for a glimpse of your offspring, your son is distracted by fun, by the structure of our program, the friends he is creating, and our amazing staff, who create comfort and a sense of home.

06_27_2015_0_HotStove_32Today, we woke up to sunny skies and a temperature that reached the mid-seventies. It was our first day of regular program. Your son participated in two team sport activities, a hobby period, a skill period, and two swim periods. That was all before dinner. As I sit and write this blog and look out through my office window, I see our boys sailing, canoeing, and water skiing on Long Lake.  I can hear whistles blowing and the sounds of cheers echoing from the fields and there is still another hour of daylight. Camp creates the perfect environment for our children to implement your family values in an age-appropriate setting.
