What’s Happening at Camp Takajo- July 5, 2014

I always used to make fun of weathermen, but there must be something to this Doppler radar. After a gray and gloomy July 4, we woke up to clearing skies and cooling temperatures. The Independence Day parade in Naples, Maine was on. We took our Warrior Group Crows and Braves, boys finishing second and third grades, to march in the parade. It has become a tradition throughout the years that our oldest campers, our Okeechobees, lead the parade since they know this is their final summer at camp.

The streets were lined with locals who cheered as our boys marched down Main Street, singing and dancing to the sounds of the Camp Takajo Marching Band. It’s hard to imagine that some of our boys didn’t even know each other one week ago, and now march and dance in unison with Takajo pride. We are starting to come together as a community, sharing camp experiences that will last a lifetime. As I walked next to our youngest campers, I looked at our oldest boys with great pride knowing that a few, short years ago, these leaders of our camp were just beginning their Camp Takajo journey.
