What’s Happening at Camp Takajo- June 27, 2014

By June 27, 2014 January 4th, 2019 Tak Talk

I woke up to a bright, sunny day with temperatures that reached the low 80’s and a cool breeze coming off Long Lake. I can’t think of a better kind of day to open the camp season. I can’t remember a time when I’ve seen so many happy campers. The hugs, high fives, and the simple gestures of helping someone carry a bag to a bunk warmed my heart. As expected, we had a few, little guys who are missing home. Our counselors are instructed to bring any boys who are struggling to visit with me. I had the opportunity to speak with a few of them, and this is what I said. “When you walk into a doctor’s office, and symptoms required an antibiotic, it could take days before the medicine kicks in and cures what ails you.”

I wish I could give every child a “magic pill” that makes them happy at camp all of the time. Our staff, our traditions, and our magnificent facility are our magic pill. And, if a child allows himself to digest everything there is to offer, he will be cured and having a blast in no time. Here’s to the start of the best summer ever at Camp Takajo.
