What’s Happening at Camp Takajo: July 3, 2013

By July 3, 2013 January 4th, 2019 Tak Talk

Tonight was our Opening Indian Council campfire. What makes the opening campfire so special is that it is the first opportunity we have to share the traditions of Camp Takajo with our newest campers. The whole camp gathered under a starlit sky at the Indian Council Fire Ring, which was led by Big Chief Neil Minsky. Twelve campers were selected for a candle lighting ceremony where the arch ideals were introduced to the camp. With a roaring campfire burning, I spoke to the campers about the importance of implementing these arch ideals into their daily routine at camp. Learning fundamentals in sports is a great skill, learning how to be a good person and a man of integrity is a life skill.07_03_2013_Family Dinner Cookout

Arch Ideal:  Love

  • Today in Senior Camp, we have a group of Intermediate campers heading to the driving range. They had a social at Camp Wildwood last night, and our Okeechobee campers represented Takajo for an event called “Dunk your Kicks”  by the MaxCure Foundation. The event took place at Wildwood Camp with neighboring camps in attendance. The Sub Seniors are preparing for their Little Trip, which is their social rafting trip with the girls from Camp Vega.
  • Down at the waterfront today, we were busy with a variety of activities. The Seniors went on a canoe adventure into the neighboring cove. The Junior Greens have been down at the water for instructional swim and, as always, our water skiers have been out on the boats enjoying the lake.
  • Today in Warrior Camp, we have the soccer boot camp clinic available. Each age division has been attending the soccer specialty clinics. Last night, we had a cereal snack on the picnic tables before bed, and we are ready for tomorrow’s parade through town for the Independence Day Celebration in Naples.
  • Also in Senior and Junior Camps today, we put together teams for a 14-and-under basketball tournament that will take place on Friday, and a 12-and-under hockey tournament. Tonight, we had a family cookout, during which every camper ate outside to enjoy the beautiful Maine weather. They enjoyed each other’s company, from oldest campers to youngest, and helped create an atmosphere of camaraderie across the age groups.
  • In Pioneering today, the Seniors went on a hiking trip to the sections of the Appalachian Trail that are located in Maine. They are going to see Table Rock and Screw Auger Falls, both beautiful sightseeing spots with unbelievable views, waterfalls and cliffs.
