What’s Happening at Camp Takajo- July 18, 2013

By July 19, 2013 January 4th, 2019 Tak Talk

In the old days, I used to joke about how a weather man would be paid when only being fifty percent correct. I always imagined how bad our enrollment would be if I went into a home and said, “There’s a fifty percent chance your son will have a good day at camp.”Camp Takajo Warrior Hockey player

Doppler radar is pretty amazing. This generation and its technology has figured it out. Unfortunately, they are telling me that Friday will be the hottest day of the week, with high dew point making the temperature feel like it’s over 100 degrees. The only good news is that there might be a chance of thunder showers– good news for whom?

Saturday, the high temperature is expected to be in the mid-eighties, again with high humidity and a very good chance of a thunderstorm hitting this area. This would be a good time to remind you to bring an umbrella. Nevertheless, we are prepared.

If it is a hot day, as expected, we will eliminate sports like lacrosse and hockey, which require extra padding and helmets. We would also eliminate drills that require lots of running, and we will switch to a day near the beach at the waterfront area, if necessary.  Needless to say, we will have plenty of water on hand, in bottles and chilled water fountains. We encourage everyone to bring water bottles.

Not only do we have provision for the heat, but we are ready in case of rain. Our indoor sports complexes will be in action all day, as well as our hobby buildings, playhouse, weight room and recreation halls. Rain or shine, please share with me the need to keep everything in perspective.  Know that as long as you get a chance to hang with your guy, all will be good at Camp Takajo. Have a great visiting day!

  • Today in Warrior Camp, we had our regularly scheduled events with some nice weather. There were a few inter-camp teams who traveled to Camp Skylemar to play lacrosse.
  • Today, our Junior campers unpacked their newly delivered laundry, cleaned up their bunks and enjoyed a full day of activities. New league sports started today, including teams such as Stark, Lannister, Baratheon, and Targaryen. The last league’s winning teams went to a local pizza restaurant yesterday for a celebratory lunch.
  • All the seniors are finishing their bunk plaques before they leave on their Big Trips. They are excited for the upcoming events, visiting weekend and their upcoming trips. How exciting!
