What’s Happening at Camp Takajo- July 16, 2013

By July 16, 2013 January 4th, 2019 Tak Talk

With visiting day just a few days away, one might think that the pace around camp slows down in the preparations for this exciting weekend. That can’t be further from the truth. In the last two days, our summer camp has participated in basketball, lacrosse, hockey and tennis inter-camp tournaments, at home and all over the state. Our Senior boys performed Dirty Rotten Scoundrels last night to a packed house, and tomorrow we host the Takajo Carnival for all of our boys and their sisters and cousins from neighboring girls’ camps.Camp Takajo JR camper enters Long Lake

While our activities are at a fever pitch, temperatures are soaring into the nineties with the dew point making the air somewhat uncomfortable. Tomorrow morning, I will implement a lazy man’s morning schedule, allowing our well-deserved campers and staff an opportunity to sleep in and get some rest. We are all staying hydrated and taking mandatory dips in Long Lake, at least once a day.

A couple of tips as you prepare to embark on your trip to Maine:

  • We are expecting this warm weather pattern to continue through Saturday. There are chances for thunderstorms late Friday into Saturday, so it might be wise to bring a small umbrella, just in case.
  • While we will have water bottles available on the Commons Deck and water fountains throughout the property, it would be wise to bring a water bottle so you can carry it with you throughout the day.
  • We will most likely go to a hot day schedule and limit some of our field sports for the sake of the parents and our boys.
  • Please bring a bathing suit because you’re invited to swim with your boys throughout the day.
  • We cannot allow parents out on any of our boats, but our water ski staff will be working throughout the day, including lunch and rest hour, should your son want to ski.
  • The only facility with air conditioning for relief from the heat is our Dining Hall. It will be open from lunchtime throughout the remainder of the afternoon.
  • I will be positioned by the waterfront throughout the day, should you need me.

You should be so proud of your son for what he’s accomplished, and the best is yet to come!

  • Today in Warrior Camp, most of our regular scheduled activities were played under sprinklers, and there was more time in the water down at the waterfront. It was a beautiful day on Long Lake, so our swim activities were fun and cooled everyone down.  Many boys played inter-camp games today against Camp Winaukee. Also, tonight we took a group of Warriors to the driving range for some practice.
  • This evening some of the Senior boys will be having a social with the ladies of Tripp Lake Camp. Half of our boys will be traveling to TLC, while the other half will stay here.
  • In Junior Camp today, we have a lot of inter-camp competition for our campers. Our boys are at Camps Skylemar and Cedar. There is also a golf trip to the town of Naples.
  • All campers will be able to watch the MLB All-Star Game, outside, under the evening sky on a huge, inflatable movie screen!
