What’s Happening at Camp Takajo? JULY 5, 2012

By July 5, 2012 January 14th, 2019 Tak Talk

Jeff’s Thoughts:

When a camper walks into Camp Takajo, he is greeted by the Takajo Arch, and on that arch are listed twelve ideals that exemplify a Takajo camper. Over the next twelve days, I will share stories with you of how our boys implement the arch ideals into their daily life at camp.

The Camp Takajo Arch

Honesty: The other night Camp Takajo hosted a social with Tripp Lake for our 13-year-old boys. As with each event, we always provide refreshments. At the end of the social, there were 100 cans of soda that remained in the building. As everyone left to head back to their cabins, one camper, Jack B., put the soda in a closet at the back of the playhouse and notified the head counselor.  How tempting it must have been for him to be staring at 100 cans of soda and not take one. Honesty.

  • Warrior Indians are on their “small trip” today, which they have been anticipating since they arrived in camp. The Indian campers all suited up to spend a day at FunTown SplashTown, a local water and amusement park.  The Crows are gearing up for an epic football game this afternoon.  Also, the Braves are excited for today’s lunch, “liver and onions” (pizza and soda). Yum!
  • The Senior boys are going to be traveling to neighboring camps for a number of games.  The 13 and under boys (U13) are going to Camp Cedar and Camp Wildwood to play a few soccer games, and the 15 and under boys (U15) are going to Wildwood to play hockey.
  • Our 14 and under boys (U14) get to enjoy a night of dancing during their social at Camp Wildwood.  This will included at least 20 other camps around Maine. Have a great time campers!
  • The Junior Green campers have a few inter-camp baseball games to play today.  We also have our 5th pioneering trip, as some of our Juniors are climbing Mt. Tom.  What a beautiful day for an adventure.
  • We have a big inter-camp day today.  The Junior Greens are playing baseball, the Senior Intermediates are playing soccer, and the Senior Okeechobees are playing roller hockey, all of which are out of Takajo at the opposing teams’ camps. And tonight, we have our annual fireworks show on the waterfront, which starts with a few noteworthy speeches at the assembly.
  • At the waterfront this morning the Junior Greens ran relay races, which turned out to be a very intense competition.  While the Warrior Indians were out on their trip, and Crows and Braves had the swim areas exclusively to themselves. They had small group games and had a lot of fun in the sand. It was another perfect day for sailing as well, with the wispy clouds bringing in a light breeze.
