What’s Happening at Camp Takajo? July 13, 2012

Jeff’s Thoughts:
Sportsmanship:  When our older boys in Junior and Senior camps participate in sporting events and inter-camp games, they will often hear me say, “We never give up.”  As a matter of fact, if you start a sentence here at camp by saying, “We never…”  Your boy would finish the sentence by saying, “… Never give up.”  Our focus is on keeping competition in its proper perspective.  What’s important is not how many games you win or lose.  We measure success by the effort put forth and the experience each camper gains from the game.   Sportsmanship.

  • Our Camp Takajo Tennis Invitational yesterday went extremely well, and Takajo took the championship win.  There were seven camps involved in the tournament, and out of all the matches played, Takajo came out on top.  Thank you to all the staff that helped make this year’s Tennis Invitational such a success.
  • Warrior campers are in for a special treat tonight.  They are all invited to the first Warrior campfire of the summer. Here they will learn some special camp songs, and maybe even help add some new ones.  This campfire is the highlight of the boys’ week.   Today is also the last day of the baseball and basketball specialty clinics.  Last night was the beginning of our new Prime Time Basketball Athletic League.
  • Out on the waterfront today, the lifeguards and other staff have been preparing for the Camp Takajo Invitational Swim Meet, which will be coming up tomorrow.  Six camps will come together on our waterfront to participate in this grand swim meet.  We are all gearing up for what could be the warmest five days of the summer this week.  Everyone will be concentrating on keeping your boys safe, happy, cool and refreshed.
  • Today is a wonderful day in Junior camp.  The Greys are out of camp on a trip to Seacoast Fun Park for a day of go-cart racing, mini golfing, hill slides and many other fun activities.   Later in the afternoon, they will all go see Spiderman in 3D.  The Greens, on the other hand, are enjoying a nice, full day of league and active play.
  • Last night, our 12-and-under boys played basketball against one another, and the A team beat the B team for the championship win, congratulations! Today, the 13-and-under boys are going to play lacrosse at Cedar and Skylemar.  The 15-and-under boys will be playing a lacrosse tournament at Camp Cedar.  We will also be continuing our family Ga-ga tournament this afternoon.
