What’s Happening at Camp Takajo? July 12, 2012

Jeff’s Thoughts: Not My Child?
Obedience: Every boy who comes to Camp Takajo comes from a lovely family who prides themselves on teaching their child acceptable behavior and respect of others. However, it is not uncommon, when you put boys together in a camp environment, for the boys to get over-stimulated and test boundaries. Whether it is staying up late at night or attempting to sneak out of a bunk, it is common for boys in a group to challenge authority. I often refer to this behavior as “age-appropriate inappropriateness.” In camp, while we want our campers to have fun, we also want them to have a safe appreciation of their surroundings, and respect for rules and authority. Having a great time can take place “inside the lines.” Obedience.

  • The 14-year-olds had their social with Camp Mataponi here at Camp Takajo last night and are exciting to share how much fun they had. Tomorrow, the 15-year-olds have their social at Mataponi.
  • In Junior camp today, we will be starting our new league. We will be following a normal schedule today, finally!
  • Today is an important day for our Tennis staff and many campers; it is our Camp Takajo Invitational Tennis Tournament. The camp has been preparing for this day all summer long. There are approximately seven camps from all around that will be coming to Takajo to join the competition, which means there are 100 boys who will be playing in the matches. There will be scores from this Invitational coming at the end of the week. Good luck tennis players!
  • Today our WR Braves are on their little trip out of camp. They are beginning their day at Seacoast Fun Park, where they will enjoy some time playing arcade games, riding down the giant slide, taking Ferris wheel rides, and playing mini golf. They will leave to eat lunch, and then spend the rest of the afternoon out at the lake. The rest of our Warrior boys will be playing more basketball and baseball at camp.
  • On the waterfront today, we will have our older campers out on the water for a day of sailing. Blue skies, and lots of sunshine will keep campers close to the water and jumping in to cool off. Don’t forget your sunscreen!
