We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day for Visiting Day. The stars seemed to align, things ran incredibly smoothly, and the weather was picture perfect.
Our staff went above and beyond today to demonstrate the level of love, care, and dedication your boys have received throughout the summer. They were excited to introduce themselves, share stories from the last four weeks, and showcase the tremendous growth they have witnessed in your sons.
I know parents were thrilled to see the progress their boys have made in both their sports and sportsmanship, and were captivated by the projects that have been created on Hobby Lane.
For many, the waterfront was the highlight of the day. Parents stood on the beach amazed as boys who had never waterskied before popped effortlessly out of the water. Others confidently slalomed, wakeboarded, and wakesurfed, while countless campers and families spent the afternoon climbing, sliding, and laughing together on our AquaGlide water park.
One observation really stood out to me throughout the day. There were several occasions when I found myself talking with parents while their sons were pulling them away, because they instinctively knew they only had so much time before the next activity. They had to change out of their bathing suits, grab their equipment, or get themselves to the waterfront.
Today, parents got to see it. They saw boys who know where they’re going, who understand their routine, who move around camp with confidence and independence because this has become their home. Four weeks ago, many of these same boys were relying on counselors to remind them where to go next. Today, they quietly took responsibility for themselves. It was one of the greatest signs of growth parents could have witnessed.
Hats off to our food service director, Mike Morton, Head Chef Reggie, and the entire kitchen staff for preparing a delicious meal for our visiting families. Feeding over one thousand guests is no small feat, and they did an outstanding job.
Before anyone had much time to dwell on the goodbyes, the entire camp gathered around the campfire ring for our annual Visiting Day Mega Raffle. The energy was contagious with cheers erupting from every corner of the crowd whenever a winner was announced. The items were certainly exciting, but perhaps more importantly, the raffle brought the whole camp back together, replacing the emotions of departure with laughter, anticipation, and shared excitement.
At the end of the day, each division came together for movie night, a chance to take a well-deserved deep breath after an exciting day. Surrounded by their counselors and friends, the boys settled in with snacks from home, already slipping comfortably back into their camp routine.
Thank you for your continued trust and confidence in all that we do. We hope today made evident just how much your sons have accomplished in such a short period of time. The confidence, independence, friendships, and skills you witnessed today are the product of four remarkable weeks at Takajo, and we’re excited for everything that still lies ahead.
