Tak Talk Blog- Camp Takajo – July 14, 2024

It was everyone’s favorite morning at camp as sweet dreams of Dunkin’ Donuts motivated our boys to hop out of bed and rush down to breakfast in their PJs. I love playing a guessing game about which doughnuts our little boys ate. There’s always a giveaway as the remnants of sprinkles or frosting linger on their faces long after the doughnuts disappear into their bellies.

Our boys with sisters or family at Camp Vega, Mataponi, Fernwood, and Pinecliffe all had the opportunity to spend the afternoon at their family member’s camp. Many of our other boys who remained at camp spent their morning down at the waterfront swimming, sailing, canoeing, waterskiing, and taking turns sliding down our new AquaGlide inflatable slide. We had a relaxing afternoon that included some team practices, more swimming on this glorious hot day, and watching the UEFA Euro final soccer match, which gave our boys a great break from the heat and humidity as they cheered on their favorite team.

The entire camp came together this evening for our Senior Big Show, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. A first on the Takajo stage, our oldest boys performed the show with great flare and entertained us throughout the evening. I always find it incredibly impressive that our actors manage to find time to learn lines and attend rehearsals while juggling sports, intercamp, and out-of-camp trips.

It’s the last time we will see some of our older boys entertain us on the Takajo stage, but the memory of seeing our Okees singing and dancing as Oompa-Loompahs will stay with me perhaps longer than I wish. As with all camp-wide events, we ended the evening singing the camp Alma Matter followed by a moment of silence as Tattoo echoed throughout the MJG Playhouse.
