The intercamp games, socials, and trips made the week fly by. From all accounts, our boys and staff had an amazing week. Our staff had a well-deserved day off this week and enjoyed tubing down the Sebago River in New Hampshire; the perfect break needed to recharge their batteries so they could be at their best working with our boys.

Today, our eleven-year-olds had the opportunity to compete in intercamp. Once again we were on the road, but they loved the chance to compete in basketball and soccer. This was the first opportunity that this age group had to put on a uniform and compete for Takajo. It is seen as a rite of passage, a badge of honor, and enthusiasm was high as our boys boarded the bus to head to the competition.

Our Okees have been on the move all week. Intercamp, socials, and today they were off property once again, heading to a bowling alley that was reserved just for them. After bowling, they had enough time to enjoy lunch before heading to a movie theater where they enjoyed the just-released movie, Thor: Love and Thunder. The boys enjoyed a dinner out on the town before returning back to camp and made a point of coming by my office to express their appreciation for giving them these opportunities to get off campus for some age group fun.

This weekend is the long-awaited, highly anticipated, first FaceTime call with your son. As you would imagine, the logistics of getting all of our boys on FaceTime calls within the same time period is challenging. We have given you a window for when you should expect your son’s phone call:

  • Warrior campers will call on Saturday, July 9, between 11:15 am and 12:15 pm,
  • Juniors and Intermediates will call on Sunday, July 10, between 10:30 am and 11:30 am,
  • Subseniors will call Sunday evening around 7:30 pm, and
  • Okees will have regular phone call privileges.

While we know that you are eagerly anticipating that call, please bear with us as we are working out the kinks to initiate these calls.

As your heart pounds in anticipation of seeing your son’s beautiful face, just imagine what he must be feeling in anticipation of seeing you. It might take a moment or two to get beyond the emotion of seeing each other before you are able to redirect your son to talk about all his accomplishments in the last two weeks. There were many, and I hope that your son will share some of them with you.

We anticipate these FaceTime calls to last roughly fifteen minutes, and you will hear us in the background gently reminding your son when that call is nearing the end. We don’t want to make the goodbye feel abrupt, and your sons’ counselors, group leaders, and I will be there to help transition any boy who has difficulty saying goodbye. Please know that our complete focus will be on your boys after the call, and they will receive any love and support they need.

As always, I remain available to you if I can help you in any way.
