While it is difficult to single out the most impactful day of the summer, today is clearly on the shortlist. After an incredible evening yesterday listening to the U.S. Navy SEALs talk about one of their most important missions, Camp Takajo had the opportunity this morning to see these men in action.

These Navy SEALs are decorated war heroes and have served our country admirably. Nevertheless, their current mission is to raise funds for families whose children are facing life-threatening illnesses. The SEALs’ journey began this morning at 5:00 AM when they entered Long Lake five miles from Takajo on the Bridgton shoreline. They swam side by side and arrived at camp at 8:30 in the morning. Our campers and counselors were waiting on the beach and gave the SEALs a well-deserved round of applause, providing inspiration and motivation they would need to conquer this challenge.

The SEALs came ashore and joined us for flag raising and the national anthem. It was an incredible moment that our boys completely understood. They witnessed men who are selfless and challenging themselves to help others. They understand that by giving, they can make a difference in this world. Our campers and staff were truly mesmerized. Nobody wanted this event to end. However, the SEALs were on a mission, made their way back to our docks, and into the lake to continue their swim.

Meanwhile, the Takajo eleven-and-under basketball team competed in a basketball tournament and went 3-0. Also, our eleven- and twelve-year-old boys competed in a local tennis tournament.

Camp Takajo in Naples, Maine, USAAt dinner this evening, I mentioned to our boys that while they were enjoying a fun day of camp and three hot meals, the Navy SEALs had not yet completed their monumental swim. They had continued to swim from Long Lake into Brandy Pond and through the locks of the Songo River, which opens up into Sebago Lake.

I am once again attaching the link to this Swim For Sunshine Challenge in hopes that you will support your son’s experience by contributing to this worthy cause. In your next email to your child, let them know that you are aware of this epic event and that you made a donation to honor those who need our help.

To risk sounding redundant, we had another spectacular day. Our Warrior Indians returned home from an enjoyable sleepout, and a few of our Warrior Brave bunks packed their backpacks and made their way to Swan Falls to make up for their campout that was rained out a week ago.

Our Warrior Indian campers showered up after lunch and traveled to Camp Vega for their first social of their Takajo careers. The boys had an opportunity to visit with the Vega ladies, play tennis, gaga, make s’mores, and enjoy dinner before returning home in time for taps. Our Juniors continued with their team playoffs in hopes of securing a league championship. With our Senior boys out of camp, the place feels a little empty, but knowing our boys are thriving brings a smile to my face.
