Camp Takajo in Naples, Maine for boysWe gave the boys an extra fifteen minutes of sleep this morning because we were greeted by gray skies and a misty drizzle. After the fast paced week that just occurred at Camp Takajo, sleep is at a premium here. As the boys came out of the dining room, they were greeted by sunshine and a hint of humidity. By mid-morning, our program was in full swing.

We take great pride in our coaches and feel that we offer excellent instruction in every sport. With that being said, we are very fortunate to have established wonderful relationships with highly acclaimed coaches in various fields who spend time with us every summer. Mike Turtle, owner of Soccer Specific Training in New Jersey, returned today for his fifth consecutive year. Every camper, regardless of his ability, will have the opportunity to opt out of his normally scheduled program in order to develop his skills under Mike’s leadership. If you know your son has the desire to improve or has hopes and aspirations of making a travel soccer team in the fall, I would encourage you to email your son and urge him to take advantage of this opportunity. We are fortunate to have Mike with us for the entire week.

On July 8, Brian Eagleson, a highly regarded basketball coach from the San Jose, California region returns for his two-week stint as our visiting basketball coach. Brian is the son of Takajo’s legendary basketball coach Kevin Eagleson, who spent over twenty years running our senior basketball program back in the days when I was a camper. Brian’s incredible knowledge of the game combined with his fitness and strength training background offers a complete workout for our boys who wish to excel in basketball.

Camp Takajo in Naples, Maine for boysOn July 12, Jordan Baltimore, owner of Empire Baseball in New York City, returns for his fourth consecutive summer, offering his expertise in the fundamentals of America’s pastime. Many of our families who live in Manhattan have their kids train with Jordan during the school year and are thrilled that they get to workout with him over the summer.

For our boys interested in lacrosse, we are fortunate to have professional players from the NY Lizards who will run lacrosse clinics for our boys in mid-July. Our boys love having the opportunity to learn from athletes that have mastered their craft at this elite level. No matter his sport or his ability level, we hope to see every child take advantage of these unique opportunities.
