What’s Happening at Camp Takajo: July 14, 2015

We are enjoying an amazing stretch of beautiful weather in Maine this summer. Today was another day that temperatures reached the eighties. The day was filled with sunshine, was slightly balmy, and was what I refer to as a perfect Camp Takajo day. Each age group had a packed schedule.

Camp Takajo Sunrise 2015

For some, reveille came earlier than usual. Devoted photography enthusiasts woke up at the crack of dawn with our photography counselor to capture the sunrise coming up over Long Lake. They will take these photos and create a magnificent collage for the entire camp to witness during our art show, later in the season.

Our Warrior Crow campers, our youngest campers in camp, went on their first field trip. They travelled to Sebago Lake State Park for a fun-filled day of swimming in one of the most magnificent lakes in Maine. Afterwards, our youngest boys went to a local movie theater to catch a matinée showing of Minions and topped off the trip with ice cream sundaes.

Our Warrior Indian campers (10-year olds) participated in an afternoon lacrosse round-robin tournament. Over twenty lax enthusiasts played against neighboring camps. Our Junior boys hosted a soccer tournament. Camp Takajo fielded two soccer teams, which gave more opportunity for the boys to showcase their skills. The Junior Green campers then attended a post-dinner social with the girls from Camp Vega.

Senior campers participated in basketball and tennis inter-camp competition, and capped off the evening by grabbing a shower, slapping on some cologne, and socializing with the young ladies at Tripp Lake Camp. In the midst of this incredibly busy day, the camp also hosted the annual Camp Takajo Climbing Competition and invited six camps to test their skills on our amazing climbing wall.

After a delicious stir-fry dinner, campers recharged their batteries for a “hot stove” activity. Water skiing, sailing and canoeing flooded the lake until the sun set. Sports clinics took place in every sport for our Warrior campers, and the Junior boys relished the opportunity to participate in bunk challenges. As the sound of tattoo from Warren’s bugle echoed across the campus, I smiled knowing everybody was going to get a good night’s sleep.
