What’s Happening at Camp Takajo- July 1, 2014

By July 1, 2014 January 4th, 2019 Tak Talk

Today was a perfect camp day. There was a balmy breeze, just enough to fill the sails and propel all of the boats across the sparkling water of Long Lake. Four ski boats pulled water skiers, wake boarders, and banana boat riders. Other campers enjoyed canoeing and kayaking closer to the shore. If you walked up the center road of Camp Takajo, you could see games taking place on every field. Despite the warm, humid weather, our boys were eager to get out and run. At every tennis court, there was an instructor developing the campers’ skills. Counselors stood behind home plate calling balls and strikes. When I walked down Hobby Lane, I saw boys scaling our fifty-foot climbing wall. Campers were diligently making gifts for their mothers in our ceramics classes. Others were playing music on the WTAK camp radio station and writing articles for the next edition of the Tak Talk newspaper.06_29_2014_0_Swim_JR_082

Needless to say, everyone wanted to see USA play in the World Cup, so at 4 o’clock, we took a well-deserved break. Campers were able to view the game from three different locations in camp. One of the locations was in the camp’s dining room. While the boys ate dinner, they were able to cheer on the USA, and cheer they did. Cheers and chants erupted for every close play. As I made my rounds this evening, to say good night to our Warrior campers, I couldn’t help but think that there would be nothing better to conclude this day than a cool dip in the lake. So, before the sun settled behind the White Mountains, the campers took a refreshing dip in the lake to relax and ready them for bed. Today was one of those perfect camp days.
