What’s Happening at Camp Takajo- July 7, 2014

By July 7, 2014 January 4th, 2019 Tak Talk

You should be proud of the Camp Takajo staff. We have assembled a fine group of men and women, who are morally and ethically sound people. They have committed their summer to caring for your boys.

Each year, as the staff orientation begins, the first thing I tell our staff is that you are going to be inundated with policies, procedures, and techniques to help children, whether it be a homesick child or one afraid to join a game. I impress upon our staff to go through the summer behaving as if you, the parent, is watching them interact with your child at all times.  As one who has the opportunity to work shoulder to shoulder with our staff and witness first-hand how our staff interacts with your children, I know you would be impressed.

Today, I watched one of the tennis counselors console a camper after he lost his inter-camp match, due to some very suspect calls made by his opponent. The conversation was not about being cheated, but rather how you keep your composure and remain focused when the odds are stacked against you. I watched as a pioneering counselor interacted with our food service director to make sure that a boy on his trip had his gluten-free meal prepared for lunch later that day. I watched our team of nurses care for a child who was feeling sick and needed to rest in our health center.

I believe that if children are to become good roles models, they have to witness good role models, and I am confident that we have assembled an excellent staff to set the right example for your son this summer.
