Holiday Sentiments from Camp Takajo, December 2013

By December 12, 2013 January 4th, 2019 Tak Talk

Dear Camp Takajo Family and Friends,

The recent snow and chill in the air is a not-so-gentle reminder that winter will soon be upon us.  However, our thoughts are never far from camp, and we are well underway in our preparations for the 2014 season.

Camp Takajo- Winter on JR QuadNext to being a father and a husband, I can think of no greater love and purpose than that of directing Camp Takajo. Camp gives me the opportunity to meet so many wonderful families who share the same commitment and desire to see their children learn the life skills necessary to become valued members of our society.

Like most parents, I have my share of restless nights thinking about my children’s future. I can’t help but feel that every decision my wife and I make has a direct impact on who our children will become. It is so important for them to learn compassion, consideration and patience. They need to learn that instant gratification is fleeting and that hard work doesn’t always generate immediate results, but that perseverance builds character and creates a basis for sustained success.

At the same time, I recognize the importance of letting go.  I have to trust that we have laid a strong foundation at home and instilled important values so that our children are prepared to meet the challenges they will face each day.   This is the virtue of camp.  Children are exposed to so many experiences that enable them to navigate new situations and develop the confidence and resilience that can only be gained away from mom and dad’s watchful eyes.

Our children are granted many opportunities in life, including where they spend their summers. I am honored that you trust me and my staff to provide a safe and enriching environment where your sons can develop these lifelong skills. I truly believe that together we are helping our children acquire the necessary tools to navigate the uncharted waters they will face in the future.  There is no greater gift we can give our children than to show them we have the confidence in them that they have what it takes to succeed.

I wish you a happy and healthy holiday season and all good wishes in the New Year!

As Ever,

Jeff
