What’s Happening at Camp Takajo- July 21, 2013

By July 22, 2013 January 4th, 2019 Tak Talk

Don’t get me wrong. I know there’s something to a mother’s intuition. As a parent, I always feel that I’m in tune with my children, and that I have that “sixth sense” when something might be a little off.  It is the day after visiting day, and when I woke up this morning, all of the parents and the humidity were gone. While I’m sure that is just a coincidence, it feels like camp is back to normal again.Camp Takajo Laser Tag Day

The fascinating thing about the emotion that comes with visiting day is that, when a parent comes to visit their child, they naturally envision their child as they last saw them, in their home environment. But, a lot has changed in the last four weeks. Believe it or not, in such a short time, your son has gotten into a routine, and has been thriving. As much as he looks forward to the “big day,” the combination of reconnecting with the most special people in his life and the disruption of his schedule often makes for an emotional day. You have my word that I have not seen one child in my office today in tears complaining about missing home. Children, by nature, are resilient and after that last car drives through the Takajo gate, camp resumes.

This morning, our boys woke up to Lazy Man’s morning, a Dunkin’ Donut breakfast, followed by a special day of all-camp laser tag on the senior baseball field. You could hear the laughter through the camp as our boys rejoiced in being together and just having fun.

Tomorrow morning, our Senior campers depart on five-day excursions to Acadia National Park, canoeing down the St. Croix River, and a golf trip that features some of the best courses in the state of Maine. Inter-camp competition resumes in Junior Camp, and Warriors will start movie nights down at my house. While many think camp is almost over, the best is yet to come.

  • Today, a laser tag company traveled to camp to treat us to an amazing morning of Camp Takajo laser tag. Each age group took turns competing against teams of their own age on the Senior field. Everyone had fun and loved laser tag day at camp.
