What’s Happening at Camp Takajo- July 12, 2013

Hate the sin, and love the sinner.

Woke up to one of the most magnificent days of the summer, clear skies, eighty degree temperatures, but while the clouds were dissipating in the evening making way for a beautiful sunrise, some of our oldest campers came up with the idea of decorating the outfield of our senior baseball field with field liner paint. Candidly, not the most original prank I’ve ever seen, but what was even more disturbing, was that my facility manager and his crew had to take time from their already busy day to address this graffiti.07_03_2013_WR_Nature_002

During the breakfast meal, I pulled one of the senior campers over, to sit with me at my table, and before I had to threaten waterboarding, he sung like a canary. While his partners in crime requested asylum at a neighboring boys’ camp, they realized they were caught and had to pay the consequences. I spoke to the senior camp about the incident, after breakfast, and I shared with them that I realized they’re at an age where most are often impulsive, but that impulsivity isn’t an excuse for inappropriate behavior.

These seemingly innocent pranks always seem like a good idea at the time, but rarely after one thinks through the consequences. I’ve seen a lot of pranks in my twenty-six years as owner, and must admit, I’ve participated in a few (although my hand was never caught in the cookie jar). When it was all said and done, I think our older boys will decide to channel their energies at being our leaders and leave the field paint to the professionals.
