Tak Talk Blog- Camp Takajo – August 4, 2025

What a packed day!

We are in full Olympic mode at camp, and every field and court was in use throughout the day. I tried my best to catch all the action, but the cheers coming from every direction kept pulling me from one event to the next. As soon as I’d arrive at one game, another eruption of noise would call me elsewhere. There’s just too much excitement around camp!

A few highlights that will stay etched in my memory for quite some time were a relay race for our 10-year-olds during the Warrior Track Meet this afternoon. The lead for one team seemed insurmountable but, with just a quarter lap to go, the opposing team kicked it into gear and closed the gap. As the two runners neared the finish line, the trailing runner dove across it, scraping his knee and just edging out his opponent. The effort was nothing short of heroic. While the knee needed some care, the smile never left that boy’s face.

Another was a SubSenior basketball game held on the Senior Court. “On paper,” the Grey team had more size and skill, but try telling that to the Green team. They came out determined and kept the score tight the entire game. With seconds left in regulation, the Green team was up by two. The Grey team managed to score just in time to force a first overtime. In this first OT, Grey took control, and it was a last-second heroic shot that forced a second overtime. When the final buzzer rang at the end of the double overtime, Green had prevailed by just one point. Soaking in sweat, exhausted, each team went to their teammates to hug— one in jubilation, the other in disappointment.

At the end of a full day of competition, the camp came together on Hobby Lane to pay tribute to the incredible works of art created this summer at the annual Art Show. On display were camper projects from Art, Crafts, Ceramics, Woodworking, Video, Photo, Radio, Drama, and Tak Talk!

We have an expression here at camp that we “sprint through the finish line.” While August 7 grows near, there is still no sign of letting up.
