Tak Talk Blog- Camp Takajo – July 31, 2025

We had our final round of big trips today.

Our Hawks (finished third grade) had a perfect day to be at Funtown Splashtown USA, where they enjoyed a full day of water slides and amusement park rides. With bright sunshine and warm temperatures, every splash into the pool felt even more refreshing and exhilarating.

Meanwhile, our Junior Greys (finished sixth grade) spent the day shooting the rapids down the Kennebec River. The boys piled onto rafts, sharing an unforgettable adventure as they navigated the whitewater in groups of eight and pulled ashore all together for a delicious steak and chicken cookout. It was the perfect out-of-camp excursion for the oldest boys in Junior Camp.

But, the moment the buses returned back into camp from these trips, the buzz was in the air as our boys eagerly anticipate the break of Takajo’s Olympics. There’s no pulling the wool over anyone’s eyes in camp as our guys are savvy enough to know we’d never start our Olympics until everyone’s feet were on Takajo soil. No one knows if it’s a matter of minutes or days before each division in camp will be split in two, bandanas are draped around campers’ foreheads, and green and grey warpaint are spread across faces, but they know it’s coming.

The Olympics will carry on for days, and our boys will compete in every landsport, in a swim meet, in waterpolo, in a track meet, and in skill competitions, which will include archery, waterskiing, sailing, canoeing, and golf. The grand finale will be the “Whacked-Up Relay,” a race throughout the entire campus where every camper will participate in an event. The relay will move across camp until the final event: the iconic pie-eating contest, where the first man to finish the pie will lead his team to victory.

The forecast is clear, and the boys are primed and ready. They’re just gonna have to wait until that Olympic bugle blows.
