This week has flown by, as it was packed with trips, socials, and intercamp. It’s hard to imagine that the pace of the summer is increasing, as the last few weeks are filled with so many golden nuggets leading up to the crescendo. We’re gearing up for the breaking of our Olympics, our Final Council Fire, and our Final Banquet that we all sit down to enjoy as a camp family. Each passing week brings with it more fun as it’s hard to imagine how fast they’re flying by.
Our Eagles were on the road again today, representing us in baseball. We dressed two teams for a tournament, and our boys showed up ready to play. One of our teams was coached by two ex-campers. One is a stellar athlete— heading off to college in the fall and brings youth and enthusiasm to the team. The other— our camp doctor and a standout baseball player in his own right— spent every waking hour on the senior field during his camping days before heading off to college to pursue his passion on the diamond and eventually find his calling as a pediatric intensive care physician.
It’s so great for our boys to have this kind of leadership on their sideline, coaching them to victory. The teams played in two games each, and a time has been slotted for our boys to go head-to-head at home and decide the true champion.
Our 11-and-under team traveled to a neighboring camp to go head-to-head against one of our friendly rivals in lacrosse. Our opponents, and the sweltering heat, were no match for our boys who showed up ready to play and, just like our baseball teams, returned home sprinting off the bus into the lake for a celebratory dip.
Daily check-ins from our trip leaders report that our older boys are flying high, soaking up all kinds of experiences on their incredible adventures. In Canada, the Okees had an amazing time climbing over tree tops and zip lining over rivers. The Maine Adventure group enjoyed an unforgettable day of fishing. Our Sub Seniors are gearing up for their meet-up in Bar Harbor, and the St. Croix River crew is safely off the river.
Back in camp, the humidity is about to break, and the extended forecast is for bright sunshine and non-stop fun for your boys.
