A beautiful morning filled with sunshine and a light breeze turned into a hot afternoon, but our boys didn’t seem to mind. I made an announcement in the dining hall at breakfast reminding everyone that, for the next 48 hours, it’s very important to keep those water bottles filled and stay hydrated.
I’m sure I’m not the only one eyeing the long-range forecast, eagerly anticipating beautiful weather for our visiting day on Saturday. With any luck, the high dew points will clear out by the end of the day Thursday, and we can look forward to a perfect Maine day for your long-awaited reunion.
We stuck to our regular program today and took appropriate breaks when needed. Every age group made their way down for a refreshing swim in Long Lake.
We also ran a few out-of-camp pioneering trips. Some of our Okees, finished ninth grade, ventured off to Emerald Pool and Deer Hill Trail— a relatively short hike through the woods that leads to a hidden gem of a swimming spot, nestled in the White Mountains National Forest. Our oldest boys enjoyed a day in nature with their best friends. Half of our Hawk Division, finished third grade, departed for Swan Falls Campground, where they set up tents, went swimming, cooked dinner over an open fire, and enjoyed s’mores before settling in for the night. Sleeping under a star-lit sky, many of our boys experienced their first camp-out in the wilderness, an experience we hope will spark a love for many more camping adventures during their summers at Takajo.
Tonight’s MLB All-Star Game was a fan-favorite across all age groups. The game was streamed for everyone to enjoy, and during inning changes, our boys grabbed sodas from their counselors and munched on snacks, just like at the ballpark.
As their heads hit the pillows, the boys drifted off to sleep dreaming of tomorrow’s carnival, another special event sure to bring joy and excitement to all.
