There are many big events that take place during the summer at camp. Today, we hosted our Takajo Invitational Swim Meet— an event that, for many years, was the only one in camp with a record board tracking the achievements of some of Takajo’s greatest swimmers.
For those who participated in this meet during their camper years, the memories are vivid: standing on the starting blocks, looking out at the beach, and seeing hundreds of onlookers cheering them on. We hosted six camps today, and under the leadership of Nick Andreacci, this continues to be one of the most professional and well-run events of the season. Our swim staff stood on the docks, surrounding the lanes in their red lifeguard trunks and white Takajo tank tops.
Events were held at every age level across all strokes and categories. And yet, thanks to expert organization, the transitions between races were seamless, giving hundreds of swimmers the chance to compete throughout the day.
Meanwhile, for those not swimming or cheering, it was a much-needed regular day in camp. After a week full of trips and intercamp competitions, our boys enjoyed the chance to compete with friends and relax in a more laid-back atmosphere.
As the sun set and dinner came to a close, each age group made their way into their indoor facilities for Saturday night at the movies. It was the perfect way to end a week full of excitement and activity.
