Another magical day at camp… After delicious egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches, our Hawks, Sub Seniors, and Okees boarded buses for fun excursions off campus. These trips out of camp are considered icing on the cake. It’s always fun to go to water parks, theme parks, and movie theaters with your buddies for a welcome change of pace.

In the meantime, the rest of our boys had the opportunity to take advantage of a great day in camp— playing sports, making cool projects, and enjoying our magnificent waterfront. Our ski boats were running all day as the boys enjoyed waterskiing, wakeboarding, wakesurfing, and cruising on the banana boat. The wind was perfect for sailing, and multiple age groups tested their balance as they bounced from obstacle to obstacle in our water park.

I had a great conversation today with an incredible mother who was calling to check on her son. We used to talk somewhat frequently when he was in Warrior Camp, and I commented that now that he’s moved up a division, my interactions with him are less frequent.

While the mother’s first reaction was one of sadness, I told her this was actually a good thing. While our younger boys crave attention and affection, our older boys go through a natural maturation where, if they’re developing as expected, they begin to seek more independence.

While the conversation was relatively brief, the mom was happy to hear that her son was growing in all the right ways, becoming more self-reliant and learning how to navigate camp life without the constant support he needed just a few summers ago.

I’m sure when you visit your sons next week, you’ll notice that same healthy growth and see how they move around campus and connect with their friends with confidence and a growing sense of autonomy.
