Tak Talk Blog- Camp Takajo – June 25, 2025

Warm temperatures and high humidity made their way to Maine today, but not until midway through the afternoon. This allowed us to maintain our momentum and stay in our regular program throughout the morning. At any given point during the day, you could hear cheers echoing across the campus as all of our team sports were in action simultaneously.

There was plenty of time for everybody to make their way down to the lake for a well-deserved, refreshing dip. It was the perfect opportunity to christen our new aqua park. A number of boys had a chance to play on our new attractions.

In the afternoon, our group leaders made a wise pivot and continued with modified sports games, including sprinkler kickball, volleyball, and water polo. There were constant reminders for water breaks, and ample time to find some shade. The staff worked hard and kept a high level of enthusiasm as they motivated our boys to try their best and have fun.

With each passing day, our little guys become a bit more familiar with camp. I often receive phone calls from first-time parents wondering if their boys are having fun. While this is an obvious question, one should not lose sight of how much these little guys are absorbing in such a short period of time. They’re managing the separation from home. They’re learning the names of their new bunkmates and counselors. They’re acclimating to a new facility and surroundings. They’re semi-responsible for food selection and navigating the dining hall. They’re learning how to manage their hygiene and put their clothing in laundry bags. They’re remembering how to make their beds and bring their equipment with them to activities.

In just three days, we have noticed remarkable growth in our campers. Once this becomes routine, these boys will experience an even greater sense of joy.

Rumor has it the heat wave will be short-lived, and cooler temperatures are on the horizon. It’s been an awesome start to camp.
