What a difference a day makes.
It’s hard to imagine the transformation of this property until you witness firsthand the energy that your boys radiate the moment their feet hit the ground.
Our older boys are home. The joy they express in reconnecting with their bunkmates, friends, and counselors from prior years was heartwarming to witness. The deep connections that have formed here over the years could only be established in a camp setting when you live side by side in a bunk, sharing precious moments, competing on the fields, and hiking magnificent trails.
Conversely, I saw so many little boys stepping off the bus for the first time, meeting counselors and bunkmates, putting their faith and trust in the hands of people who will become their protectors and confidantes during the next six-and-a-half weeks.
Throughout the day, our younger boys familiarized themselves with the facility, took tours of the campus with their counselors, spent time in the bunk, learned where their clothing is, and where they’ll be sleeping.
Our older boys ran right to the courts and playing fields, jumping into unstructured games—only to be interrupted when another bus would arrive into camp. It’s customary for all the boys and counselors to greet incoming campers as they arrive. As the day unfolds, I can see how much more comfortable our first-time boys are as they become the greeters as opposed to the new arrivals.
As I walked through the dining room during the dinner meal, I witnessed tables of older boys in conversation as if no time had passed since they were last in their summer home. I also noticed younger campers navigating around our dining room with their counselors, discovering all kinds of options to warm their bellies and provide comfort and nourishment.
Each division met with their group leader after dinner to hear a welcome message and learn about the opportunities that will be afforded to them throughout the summer. As taps blew and it was time to retire for the evening, our counselors remained with their bunkmates through the night, ensuring everybody was cared for.
Our goal today was to make your son feel welcomed, safe, and at home by the time his head would hit the pillow.
