Tak Talk Blog- Camp Takajo – June 21, 2025

Our staff completed final preparations throughout the day. Our orientation meetings are over, counselors are experiencing the same butterflies as your boys. And yet, they’re beaming with excitement in anticipation of seeing those buses roll down the camp road tomorrow.

I started writing blogs a number of years ago as a way for me to reflect each day on what takes place at camp through my eyes. These blogs are not meant for marketing purposes or to suggest that every day is great—this is my way to share with you the pace of camp, the vibe in our community, and what I am privileged to witness.

Very often, when one thinks of sleep-away camp, they think of high-energy, constant stimulation through activities like “color war” and team competition. While your boys will experience these incredible highs, they will also experience moments of struggle. We hope to teach your boys life skills like self-reliance, empathy, compassion, and good sportsmanship—both in victory and defeat.

I’m blessed to be surrounded by 100% return of my administrative staff. Every key position from Group Leader to Waterfront Director is filled by an experienced, compassionate individual who shares my vision for fostering an environment that enriches the lives of young boys.

Our staff is composed of morally and ethically sound individuals who have thus far proven they have the maturity and sensitivity to care for your sons, as well as the skill set to teach and coach every boy so that—regardless of ability—they will come home having learned new fundamentals.

As I take in a last, calm breath before the jolt of energy hits our campus and look forward to an amazing summer, I want to thank you for your trust and confidence.

Tomorrow begins a season of first-time tries, new friendships, and stories they’ll tell for years to come.
